Abstract

To investigate the dynamic behavior of a mooring buoy installed in an open shore, a simplified simulation model is developed, which consists of the surging and heaving motions of a mooring buoy. A series of the model tests is performed to examine the reliability of the developed model. The model tests verify that the developed model can predict the dynamic motion of a mooring buoy satisfactorily. Finally, simulation is made for the buoy installed in the west shore of Iwo-jima which failed during a stormy weather. This simulation indicates that the external loads enough to cause the failure has been loaded on the buoy at the moment of the failure.
