Abstract

A parabolic approximation of the mild slope equation was derived in terms of polar coordinates to describe waves diverging from a point source. Numerical solutions of the equation were used to extend the application of Green-function method to a wave field over arbitrary bathymetry. Validity of the equation obtained and usefulness of the numerical model were demon-strated through trial computations of wave diffraction, refraction and multiple reflection in model basins and in an actual harbor.
