AbstractA new method for numerical simulation of tidal currents is presented. Based on a technique involving the splitting of operators, it allows an accurate calculation of momentum advection, and wave propagation for large Courant numbers. It also provides a satisfactory treatment of tidal flat uncovering and flooding, and permits the use of a curvilinear computational grid. The generation method for such grids is presented here, followed by an engineering application on cartesian grid.
