Abstract
Between 2007 and 2011 a trial has been carried out with the innovative vertical beach drainage system Ecobeach at the beach of Egmond aan Zee in the Netherlands. The pilot consisted of a field experiment, for which a statistical analysis of measured coastal state indicators was executed, and a scientific part, in which a possible working principle of the system was investigated. A significant increase in beach volume has been found during the test period. Vertical beach drainage could be applied in combination with foreshore nourishments on eroding coastlines.References
