AbstractThe functional efficiency of submerged breakwaters is investigated in this paper, through a set of field measurements. Numerical and physical modelling was aimed to provide a solution which is both functional and coast effective for the coastal protection system. The field measurements were executed in order to test the pressure sensor devices and to compare the obtained transmission coefficient with the results of the 2D physical model tests performed in a wave flume. The concept, set-up, field work and analytical work, as well as relevant conclusions are presented. The research was undertaken in Constanta, Romania, on two new built structures during a coastal protection project executed by Van Oord, in 2014-2015.
