Bio Statement

Numerous of his sculptures now reside in the Museum. The Museum is also home to sculptures by Andrea Pisano (1290-1349) and many others. The Uffizi Gallery homes numerous important paintings, most especially many from the collection of the de Medici family, who willed their enormous art collection to Florence in 1737. When the Germans were battle the bridges into Florence during World War II, the Ponte Vecchio was spared, apparently due to the fact that Hitler purchased them to avoid that bridge because it was so attractive. Florence is still a center of art and culture, simply as it has actually been for many centuries.
