Resumen

The measurement, monitoring and modelling of the impacts of a major sedimentary discharge to the highly dynamic coastline of southern Namibia is described. Some 27 million m3 of sediment will be discharged over a 5 year period as a result of a novel diamond mining technique employing an inland dredger. The study demonstrates that mathematical modelling, supported by comprehensive monitoring information, constitutes an important tool for mining optimization and impact prediction and management.
