Transportation systems along the coast need integration of coastal engineering principles and practices in their planning, design, and operation. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), with statutory authority allowing consideration of "extreme events,† develops technical engineering guidance and professional development training focused on highways in the coastal environment.Referencias
